As most of you probably know by now, I'm one of the Literature CVs responsible for featuring literature DDs a few times a week. Exciting? I think so! Of course, there are a couple of things you should know about suggesting DDs to me before you do, just to keep everything running smooth and give that piece you want to see featured the best chance it's got at being picked.

Why Should You Suggest DDs?

Because it feels good to spread community spirit! No, really, it does. But honestly, sharing art you appreciate with others for a chance to be featured and loved is fantastic. It shows that you appreciate their work and are interested in promoting community spirit, as well. And, hey, who doesn't love to do that? Also, you never know! Good karma could come your way. After all, you the community are who help us scout DDs, so it's up to you to help us find spectacular literature and bring it out of the shadows!

My Guidelines for Suggestion

What I look for in DDs is quality literature. This means deviations that are formatted neatly and are easy to read (no sub text, lack of paragraphs, etc.), have proper grammar and spelling (it better have capitalization and punctuation. A few slip ups are fine, but I don't want to be struggling to read it), and that hook me. I want to feel something when I read it. I want to know the characters. It needs to feel real.

  • I prefer prose over poetry, though I do love me some well-written poems. Feel free to send me both poetry and prose suggestions.

  • Please only send one author per note. You may send up to 3 deviations of one author you would like to receive a DD in one note, but please only have it be for that author. Multiple notes are fine. The more suggestions, the better. (I'll give you free cookies!)

  • I adore lesser known writers on the site! If you have pieces from authors who don't have many views or favs but are talented, please send them my way. I prefer to feature them rather than a more well-known writer.

  • Deviations must have less than 200 favs (though less than 100 would make me ecstatic) on it when suggesting. Like I said, I love those lesser known writers.

  • Read the DD How to Suggest Guidelines put out by deviantART! I'll link all this information at the end of this, but please familiarize yourself with how things work with DDs.

:pointr: Some of my personal favorite types of literature are: historical fiction, emotionally driven, horror, and fantasy / magical realism.

:pointr: I'm personally not all that into: humor, sci-fi, nonfiction, or erotica.

:bulletpink: To suggest, send me a :note: with the subject "DD Suggestion".

  • Please remember to include the thumbnail of the deviation you want to suggest (if you don't know how to do that, link is fine) and the name of the author.

  • I would also love to hear why you think the piece is DD worthy. Tell me what you think, what made it stand out to you.

  • And yes, you may suggest yourself. There's no shame in wanting your work to get exposure and be recognized! Choose your best and send it!

:star: While I will try my hardest to respond to everyone who suggests something, if I don't have time to due to the number of suggestions I receive (I have already gotten a ton of notes I need to go through!) or my already busy schedule, please don't feel bad! Know that I appreciate every single suggestion you send and I love your community spirit. And, yes, I read everything you send me!

And if there's something you want to suggest that you think may not be my type of literature...

Read their personal guidelines before suggesting!

Also, please remember that we only feature original literature. If you're looking to suggest fanfiction, please send your suggestions to SingingFlames

You Gave Me a DD and People Are Being Jerks:

SEND THEM TO ME!

Seriously, send me a note letting me know and I'll kindly explain to them why I decided to feature your work. After all, you did not choose me to feature you-- I chose to feature you. Just like in the real world, not everyone likes the same things. You shouldn't be getting heat just for being featured for the day. So, if someone is being a downright jerk to you because of your DD I gave you, just let me know. I love my little featurelings and will stand up for my reasoning.

After all, a DD is a feature, NOT an award.

No one "wins" anything when they get a DD. And it doesn't mean anyone is better than you. A DD is simply a feature for artists to gain more exposure for their work. No one is winning anything. No one is getting "published". And no one bribes us to feature them. All features are decided by us CVs.

If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask. I'll be happy to assist you in any way I can. I also thank you all for reading this and hope that you'll send me your suggestions! Spread your love to the literature community!
