Well- an actual therian is someone who can shape-shift (either mentally, spiritually, or physically) into an animal(s) other than human. However, in my book, a therian is a creature that has the blood of both vampire and werewolf. But, since the blood of both kill each other, human blood and the blood of other animals must be used to keep the creature living. Thus, a therian can only be created in a laboratory, and is basically a vampire and werewolf hybrid- but carries traits of other animals. Therefore, it can shift into those other species. Kenji and Benji are my little therian boys
I know. There are different planes of shifting- spiritual, physical, etc.; as I first explained very briefly in the comment. Spiritual shifters are those who are spiritually connected to animals and don't actually shift. Others only "shift" in their dreams with different energy on different planes; and some believe/actually physically shift into animals. The physical shift originated in Egypt and North America in native tribes; and some of the Egyptian Gods (such as Horus and Anubis) have been referred to as "therian gods", due to their half man/half beast form.
No, the vampire/werewolf hybrid theory with the connection to animals is only from my novel series. I was just explaining their theory to her more than the other since that was what she was wondering about.
I would say it's spiritual. The spirit is always that of the animal you are tied with at birth, so it is considered to have undergone a spiritual shift. When the animal within is stronger in the spirit than usual, behavioral changes may occur- sometimes more like that of the animal. The "spiritual shift" is more considered a mixture between mental and spiritual... to make the actual shift itself. (wow... I sound confusing ) But for a spiritual shifter, their soul is always an animal You can probably look more up on the shifting planes online, too, if you're interested in them
And yes; two of my characters are therians... (actually the two who have gotten the most attention since the series was released... oddly enough). I called them therians, since they are just what a therian is... they have been spiritually connected to animals (as polyshifters). Their true form (therian/animal) form is a hybrid between a lycan and vampire... however they still are able to shift into other animals physically.
I am going to assume you are aware of "actual" Therians (as you will see in forums around the net)?
Therians are TECHNICALLY human beings who believe their soul is that of various animals or were-creatures. Or in some case they believe they can shift from their human form to animal form in this life.
So, werewolves, werecats, weredeer, werecrows... Etc, would all classify as Therians.
"Therians" is basically they nice term for "lyncanthropes". Seeing as lycanthropy has become the name for a particularly odd and nasty disease. <.<
Not yet- like I said, I submitted more-so to the few months waiting list. Yeah, but sadly, even with many credentials and such, they still only agree to sign a contract with you if they are interested... To me, I think finding a publisher is much easier than finding an agent. Publishers publish things they know others will like, where-as agents sign with people who have things they like. But, hopefully, something will come good soon^^
