Lit. Daily Pick

My "Daily Pick" of the Day :dalove:

What is my "Daily Pick"?

:pointr: My "Lit. Daily Pick" is a literature deviation that I have come across in the last few days that I truly enjoyed and believe others will enjoy, as well. Each day, a new piece is chosen and featured for 24 hours. At the end of the month, I also feature all the pieces from that month in a news article here on dA!

Have a piece or writer you love and want me to feature?

Send me a note with a link to their deviation! I'd be happy to read it over and consider it for a Daily Pick!

(Please note: A deviant may only be featured as my Daily Pick once a month.)

Monthly Theme Daily Feature

This Month's Theme:

Easter Eggs

What is my Monthly Theme Feature?

:pointr: Each month, I choose a different theme to find visual artwork that fits under it to feature daily. Each day, a new piece is chosen and featured for 24 hours on my page. At the end of the month, all the daily features are collected and included together in a news article feature.

Know a piece that fits the theme you love and want featured?

Send me a note with the thumbnail to that deviation! I'd be happy to give it a look and consider it for a Daily Feature.

(Please note: A deviant may only be featured once a month.)

Black Rose Lantern by Kitrakaya

:blackrose: "`DorianHarper is perhaps the greatest critiquer I have ever known. He is one of those rare deviants who makes a promise to provide feedback - however unknown the deviant may be, and always follows through. His honesty and genuine personality is so refreshing... you can't help but stalk his page while he isn't looking. `DorianHarper is a truly charitable soul. From the sidelines and in the shadows I have watched him earn his awards and praise... and then generously give it away to those in need. And now he is becoming even more involved in the Lit. community with his upcoming articles and journal features. I not only expect great things from him... I am honored to already be a part of them." -OfOneSoul

:blackrose: "`DorianHarper's writing style... What's the best way to say this..? It's sexy. That might not be the most professional thing to say, but that's the best word I can think of. The pieces from his forming novel, Fiction, are what pulled me into his writing to begin with. Just read the prologue and you'll see what I mean. He's truly talented and deserves as many views, favs, and comments as he can get." -KathraW

:blackrose: "`DorianHarper is a wonderful writer whose gifted ability in creating a historical universe (as worked out in his current novel "Fiction"; and also his pristine Shoemaker presentation in "Trial at Nuremberg") that is, in my view, perfect to the letter. He has been an inspiration for me whenever I write, and I hope he continues to serve dA the way he serves the literature community in real life. -shehrozeameen

About Dorian

Dorian (in the center with his briefcase) with his weekly youth writing group he co-runs in upstate New York

:rose::bulletred::bulletblack::bulletred::bulletblack:Quill and Ink - Free Icon by etNoir:bulletblack::bulletred::bulletblack::bulletred::blackrose:

Dorian is a 23-year-old living in upstate New York. He works in marketing and events at a magazine publisher during the week, and on the weekends helps care for cats at a local humane society. He also helps run a youth writing group in the Hudson Valley for new writers looking for critique and improvement.

Dorian is a graduate of Emerson College with a BA in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. Prior to his current job, he has also worked as an assistant at a literary agency, an assistant editor for a publisher in London, and interned as a marketing associate for a press in Boston. Aside from working in publishing, he also has had his fair share of work published—including numerous poems, short stories, and plays (two of which were performed in Boston). He's currently working on a novel project which he hopes to get published eventually.

Dorian was born in New York and currently lives there. He has also lived in London, England and Boston, MA for a few years. He’s travelled to Spain, Germany, Poland, France, Ireland, and Canada aside from his living in England. Although his mother tongue is English, Dorian can speak Spanish almost fluently and knows some German.

How To Get Readers

(Because this question pops up often in the Lit. Forum)

There is no easy answer when it comes to being "popular" or "noticed" in the Literature Community. Nothing is guaranteed, either. These are simply steps that can help make you active in the community and build relationships with other deviants and writers.

:bulletblack: Join literature groups and submit work.

:bulletblack: Comment/Critique other deviants' writing (Sometimes people feel if you leave feedback on their work, they should leave it back on yours)

:bulletblack: Be active in the forums/chatrooms

:bulletblack: Suggest DDs/DLDs (Guidelines can be found above)

:star: The most important thing is to remember: You have to give something to get something. Work hard with being active in the community. Suggest DDs, interact in conversation, offer critique, feature other writers and their writings, and keep posting your work! The more that you participate in the community, the better chance you have at being recognised.

:megaphone: You can also read this article for more tips.

:bademoticon: :bademoticon: Tag a quality deviant, You’re it! Quality doesn't mean that you have a lot of followers, or a lot of messages. It means that you’re nice to other people, and you deserve to be happy. If you get this message, someone is telling you that they love you as you are, and they don’t care how many followers you have. Send this to 10 deviants who deserve it. If you break the chain, nothing will happen. But it’s just good to let someone know that you love them! :bademoticon: :bademoticon:
